FAQs

The experienced team at Merica Family Dental understands that choosing to have dental implants can be a big decision. They are here to help you make an informed decision about what is best for you and your oral health. Here are a few frequently asked questions that may help the decision process a little easier.

How Long Does It Take To Place My Dental Implants?

Each surgery is individualized to you and your needs. Depending on how many implants are needed, most surgeries take around an hour, generally speaking.

Is It Painful To Have Dental Implants Placed?

Dental implants are placed under general anesthesia, so you will not feel any pain or discomfort during the surgery. Once the anesthesia wears off, you may feel a little sore, but nothing over-the-counter medication cannot alleviate.

How Long Is The Healing Process?

The great thing about dental implants is that they are placed under the gum, so there are no open wounds. This allows the healing process to usually be quick, and, for the most part, painless. The most important part of healing is taking enough time to ensure that the implants have securely fused with your jaw bone. It may take a couple of months to make sure the implants have created a strong foundation with the bone.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

Once the implant is fused to the bone, it can last for many years with proper care. Many implants can last up to 40 years!

Are Dental Implants Expensive?

Many insurance companies now do cover dental implants, however some insurance companies still consider implants an elective procedure. Merica Family Dental will do everything in our power to get your dental insurance to cover all of your procedures. You may contact your insurance to inquire,  or we can send a pre-treatment estimate to your insurance company to verify coverage. We also offer payment plan options to make your treatment more affordable.

Will My Implants Really Look And Feel Like Real Teeth?

Yes! The great thing about implants is that they become a part of you. There is no longer the need to worry about your bridge falling out, or your dentures slipping. Dental implants are a permanent fixture. Your pontic tooth will be perfectly matched to your existing teeth, creating a seamless smile. Once the implants have fully healed, they will both look and act like your natural teeth.
